Initial Basic Drawings - Practicing Expressions

The digital drawings here werent necessarily quick drawings or sketches, but I wanted to complete a small series, just to really begin my practice and understanding of the approaches I could take where attempting to draw orangutans for the first time. I wanted to get some practice in before I directed my project - just for some basic familiarity with drawing various features, elements, shapes and textures. As mentioned on a previous blog post, when I think of orangutans, I don't think of them as the most expressive animals, so I wanted to exercise implementing these drawings as a potential contrast.

Where the aim of my outcome in response to the brief is to encourage people to support and/or donate, whilst raising awareness and whilst being imaginative, the facial expressions upon the orangutans I will include, will most likely play a key role in setting the tone of my outcomes.

The point of these digital drawings below is to create the initial visual ideas for myself, from which I can either revert back to and develop or decide I dont actually want to take forward. Where I will be experimenting with different colours, shades and tones, I have already made the semi-decision to stick with the most natural and relevant colours possible, for which orangutans are so well known to have. The brightness of their orange fur is so beautiful and unique that I dont think it should be far from altered.
