Plants within the Malaysian Rainforests

- 'Carnivorous plants, the world’s largest flower and trees that can reach 60 metres are all part of Borneo’s extraordinary tropical vegetation.'
- 'Borneo is conservatively estimated to contain 15,000 plant species – a diversity that rivals the African continent’s – and may well have the highest plant diversity of any region on Earth.'
- 'Many of Borneo’s plants are endemic, and are found nowhere else in the world - some 5,000 species (or 34%) of flowering plants found on the island fall in this category, far ahead of neighbouring Sumatra’s 12% of plant endemism.'

- 'This is a picture of a tropical pitcher plant. This plant attracts small bugs such as flies, spiders and ants. Once they get caught in the pitcher plants goo it make it easier for the predator to get their prey.'

- 'This is the worlds largest plant, the Rafflesia. It can reach up to 100cm and weigh up to 10 kilograms. It gives off the smell of rotting flesh nicknamed the corpse flower.'

- 'The blooming Ixora, known as Jejarum in Bahasa Malaysia, is a type of bright flowering garden shrub. Translating to ‘Needle Flower’, this bush often grows in residential or public gardens in sun-soaked areas. The flowers tend to be bright red, pink and orange.'

- 'Bougainvillea is a type of ornamental vine and the official flower of Ipoh. The flower enjoys tropical climates and can often be found around the world in hot and wet environments. The Bougainvillea is a favourite in Malaysia for its ease of cultivation and beautiful year-round flowers.'

- 'The Sealing Wax Palm. The clustering palm tree endemic to Malaysia, Sumatera and Thailand exhibits a bright red crownshaft earning the nickname ‘Lipstick Palm’. With the potential to reach a height of 16 metres (52 feet) and its attractive presentation, the Sealing Wax Palm often features as a garden decoration.'

- 'Known as Elephant Ears, the large fibrous plant grows at the side of the roads throughout Malaysia and much of Southeast Asia. Classified under the Colocasiagenus, the giant leaves of this tropical plant grow larger than 1.5 metres (4.9 feet). Some species are edible; others aren’t.'

- 'The Pagoda Flower, or Clerodendrum paniculatum, rates among the most beautiful native flowers in Malaysia. Clusters of red, orange and white blossoms sprout from the stem, giving it a colourful and attractive appearance.'
