Where having a slight mental block on where and how to develop my project away from solely producing 2D sketches and illustrations, to researching the potential production of a 3D installation, an online class where I was able to gather external ideas, advice and suggestions proved very helpful.
Notes I have developed based on the feedback I received are;
Where considering different environments for my implementation of biophilic design, what is the most interesting?
- Kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and the office were all highly significant options where biophilic design is more than necessary, but a slight gap revolved around hospital rooms, spaces that are often forgotten and boring. Within a hospital; - The patients room
- The waiting room
- The reception area
- The canteen
The above are all strong contenders, however within the room of a patient is where biophilic design will be of the largest benefit. With this, questions were raised such as 'how would the plants be placed appropriately?' and 'If there were staff rushing around, how could I make the design the most efficient?' - to which answers could include utilising a 'back wall', space near a window or space on the ceiling.
What specific hospital could I focus on?
E.g. 'If I were to design a room in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, this is what it would look like!' is the attitude I aim to have where expressing the purpose of my project.
Further questions I have asked myself include;
- 'Would dried plants work the same? No? Why?' - 'What are the specific plants that aid dealing with emotion and stress?'
- 'What plants are specifically effective in aiding calmness?'
- 'What type of plants would certainly not be effective, or even detrimental, if included within a hospital patients room?' - Plants with a high allergy rating is an evident area to research.
'What type of plants and flowers have the highest combination of health benefits, visual pleasure and dont necessarily require strict daily care?'
