Looking Further into Huel's Branding & Refining Cocoa Bar Packaging

Updated: May 12, 2021

Now really refining the development for the packaging i have produced so far, i wanted to work on the important final details. Instead of just listing the main ingredients on the front of the bars, i have looked into Huels language and the vocabulary they use to describe their products. The brainstorm below shows words taken directly from their packaging. They repeat a lot of the words across different products, so i felt incorporating these within my own is a great opportunity to ensure im really fitting in with their branding - both visually and descriptively.

A slight mistake that i have now developed from on the previous experimentations, is that i had the Huel logo horizontal across all the bars. On every single Huel product, their logo is vertical - evidently this is the style i will also want to incorporate across the cocoa bars.

Experiments below that i dont like are where the logo is over the top of the imagery - it takes away from both the visuals and the logo...Experimenting further with this composition, i took time to compare the descriptive words and how to align them with the logo.

Below are the designs i favour the most, and think the layout works really well together. Across most Huel products, the logo is vertical and centred, but on the flavour boosts and a Huel canvas bag, the logos are to the bottom right of the item - i felt it was appropriate to contrast these by having my logo to the top right of the bars. I also decided on the descriptive text to be centred below the logo, as this is the composition on Huels Ready-to-drink Shakes and their Hot & Savoury range - so im convinced the bars sit inline with the branding, here.

I also wanted to include some important labels to the bottom of the bars. Within vegan products, a common replacement of dairy is soy, but soy is a high allergen. Huel dont use soy within their products, so i wasnt going to include it within my own, and felt this should be stated clearly. The situation is exactly the same with nuts - nuts are a common addition to chocolate, especially with fruits, but they are a very high allergen and Huel does not contain them across their entire product line.
