Following on from my previous blog post that focused on putting my designs onto examples and templates, I wanted to look into ways i could create some sort of background to the images. Where developing the range of my illustrations I digitally drew a hibiscus flower, as I thought this was a good chance to draw a flower with its leaves. Taking the scans I had completed as my initial primary research and experimentation, I added them to the background of my drawing. I aimed for this to create a contrast within the image, whilst adding different textures. I tampered with the tone and opacity of the scanned images but i didnt think these were successful visually.

The experimentations below focus on mirroring and again tampering with the colour of the scanned flowers in the background. I have been practicing layouts in a portrait rectangle format, as this is the most common shape and size for cards, notebooks and gift bags.

The images below focus on the composition and balance of contrasting elements - here I focused on ways I could make the harsh and sharpness of the scanned flowers, compliment the delicacy of my flower drawings.

Overall, it was certainly good to experiment with my visuals in this way as it was able to give me clarity on different decisions. However for me, the scanned flowers are lovely but too harsh for the approachable appearance I am aiming for. Some experiments certainly worked better than others, but I think from here I will be looking into other methods of producing an appropriate background.
