Responding to Feedback & Working with Texture

Receiving feedback from my class critique was both reassuring and helpful where looking at the next steps to progress my work. One piece of collective feedback that i was most reassured about, was that a lot of people agreed that adding text to my posters wasnt necessary, as the messages and meaning behind them can be understood very well. I was actually a bit surprised, as i didnt expect that feedback and was more than prepared to add text, but my peers agreed that a clear past, present and future narrative can be seen across my posters together.

A piece of feedback i agreed with was to incorporate more texture to the posters, if possible - so on the images below, this is what i have done. The details are small changes, but i do really think they add naturalness to the illustrations. The images to the left show the posters before the critique and images on the right show the afters. Changes made to the first poster included taking cuts from photographs (my looking at texture in wildlife blog) and adding them to the branches and some leaves. I think this adds a great dynamic to the posters and provides a contrasting appearance to the digital colours.

Feedback on the second poster depicted how making the orangutan bright in comparison to the background is a great idea for contrast, but the orangutan itself is too dark, it needs to stand out more. I completely agreed and reworked the original illustration to ensure the orangutan was a lot more bright and noticeable, because that was the original point! I again also took texture from photographs of bark and added it to the tree stumps in the second image - the image is intentionally dark so its not as noticeable, but i do still feel it enhances the detail of the final poster.

Feedback on the third and final poster suggested that the colour of the floor was too similar to the OF worker and that again the orangutans need to be brighter! From here i worked to add even more texture to the ground in the image, hoping this would create more of a contrast with the OF worker. I feel adding the texture did change the appearance of the image, but the OF uniform is still quite similar to the background - perhaps i should have had the OF staff member standing, and the local girls who are brighter, sat on the floor. I also added to the orangutans, making them more vibrant and noticeable.

Listening to feedback and making the changes to my work has definitely progressed the images even further, and im really happy with the new outcomes. One big piece of feedback i still aim to work towards is making the posters more cohesive, because theyre effective together, but would i want them to ever be seen individually? No - so now i will work on bringing them together, as one.
